Mrs. Jo Ann Wadsworth

Jo Ann Wadsworth, a long-time resident of Asheville, North Carolina died Friday, December 16, 2022, peacefully, at Givens Estates, Asheville NC surrounded by her family. She was a native of Franklin County, NC, and the daughter of the late Morton and Maude Gupton. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, William Murphy Wadsworth who died in 1999. She is survived by her brother, Vann Hayes Gupton, Louisburg, NC, two children and their spouses: Jane Wadsworth Piercy and Charles Keith Piercy of Silver Spring, MD, and Mort and Isabelle Ruiz Wadsworth of Lincolnton, NC, one grandson, William Morton Wadsworth II and spouse, Ashlyn and a great-grandson, William Morton Wadsworth III, and many loving nephews and nieces. Jo was a graduate of Edward Best High School in Louisburg NC and she attended East Carolina College and Louisburg College. She was on the editorial staff at East Carolina college. She worked in banking for First Citizen’s Bank where she met her husband, Bill. In addition, she worked for Buncombe County Social Services for more than 20 years. Jo never met a stranger. She had a special ability to make friends and treasured them always. She always maintained a positive attitude and an energetic love of life. Jo was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, and grandmother. She was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She enjoyed playing bridge and working in her yard and spending time with family and friends. She was an active and loyal member of the First Presbyterian Church of Asheville for 49 years. Our family is most thankful and appreciative for the medical care provided by Dr. Lucian Rice, Dr. Tim Plaut, Dr. Gloria Trujillo, Dr. Anthony Eastwood, and all those at Givens Health Center. Also appreciated are the Four-Season Hospice Team, Tim, Christine, and Michael, and the after-hours care team. Their kindness and dedication to our mother are most noted and appreciated. The family of Mrs. Wadsworth would like to thank the staff of the Givens Health Center for the loving care they gave to Jo during the years that she lived there. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, December 21 at First Presbyterian Church, 40 Church Street, Asheville, NC 28801. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Asheville, 40 Church Street, Asheville, NC 28801.
