Mrs. Margaret Lawhern Shuman

Margaret Lawhern Shuman, 82, of Asheville died Saturday, May 5, 2012. Margaret was born August 29, 1929 at the family home in Bald Creek, NC to the late Lonnie Franklin and Beulah Dennie Vaughn Lawhern. She was preceded in death by 7 of her siblings. Margaret was a 1947 graduate of Bald Creek High School and attended nursing school for two years. She married Carl Roy McIntosh on December 11, 1948, and he preceded her in death in November of 2001. Margaret was a member of First Baptist Church of Asheville for nearly 50 years, where she had been an active member in the Body of Christ Sunday School Class. She found great joy being a member of the Jubilee Choir at First Baptist as well as serving on several church committees over the years. In addition to her love for the church and her volunteer work there, Margaret adored her family for whom she always made a comfortable, beautiful and loving home. Her creativity and passion for growing flowers was evident in her flower garden and the splendid array of color and beauty which blooms each year from early spring to late fall. She is survived by her husband of 22 years, Donald Walker Shuman, Jr. of Asheville; her daughter, Patricia M. Hipps, and husband, Richard, of Cordova, TN; two sons, John V. McIntosh, and wife, Ann, of Charlotte, NC and Robert L. McIntosh and wife, Rhonda, of Atlanta, GA; five grandchildren, Justin Hipps, and wife, Sarah, of Woodstock, GA, Lacey Hipps of Franklin, TN, Erin Demo, and husband, Michael, of Atlanta, GA, Maggie McIntosh of Austin TX and Cameron McIntosh of Atlanta, GA; three great-grandchildren, Braden Hipps and Isla Hipps of Woodstock, GA and Katherine Demo of Atlanta; one sister, Pat Greene, and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM, Friday, May 11, 2012 in the Chapel of First Baptist Church of Asheville. There will be a reception at the church immediately following the service. Private interment will be held at Green Hills Cemetery.
