Mrs. Patricia Anne Hagarty

Patricia Anne Wolf Hagarty passed away peacefully in her sleep, September 29, 2014, to sing in the choirs of heaven. Pat Hagarty was born December 7, 1927 in Washington, DC. She was the daughter of Albert Wesley and Lillie Melvina Touhey Wolf. She is survived by one sister, Rosemary Fish of VA and one brother, Donnelly Wolf of Rockville, MD. She married the late Vincent Eugene Hagarty in 1951. They had seven children, Dennis of Asheville, NC; Ed and his wife, Brigid of Silver Spring, MD; Terrence of Carson City, NV who preceded her in death; Maryellen of Kingsland, GA; Geraldine of Asheville, NC (Mom's resident angel); Kevin and his wife, Francesca of Marion, NC; and Michael and his wife, Maura of Winona, MN. She has nine grandchildren, Catherine, Patrick and his wife, Dena, Andrew, Johanna, Peter, Matthew, Phillip, Ashleigh and Connor. She has numerous nieces and nephews. She also adopted in her heart, Tommy and Robin Brooks and their children as her own. Being the loving, caring and generous Mother that she was, she embraced everyone and loved them like her own. She attended St. Charles' High School in Arlington, VA and attended Peabody Conservatory of Music in Baltimore, MD (6/1945-12/1945) before going to work for the National Rifle Association and as a war service employee at the Pentagon and the Department of Agriculture in 1946. In June of 1946, she was transferred to the Library of the United States Department of Agriculture in Albuquerque, NM. In 1947, she went to work for the Department of the Army. Throughout her high school and working career, Patricia enjoyed singing and participating in plays. She shared her singing gift freely for her church and often performed for live radio during the 1940's and 1950's. When she returned to the Washington, DC area, she met her soul mate who was then transferred to Baltimore, MD. Most of their courtship was through daily letters until their marriage in 1951. Their wedding was officiated by Vince's brother, the Rev. Bishop Hagarty, OSB, DD of Nassau, Bahamas. They moved to New Orleans for their first year of marriage, and then moved to Asheville, NC where they settled in raising the children. Patricia was a Cub Scout den mother for 10 years, balanced five boys on five different Little League teams and sewed on countless patches for her Girl and Boy Scouts, always with a smile on her face and a song in her heart. She worked tirelessly with the Church choir and youth groups. She spent many years volunteering her time and talents as glee club director and play director for St. Eugene Elementary School. She made Cursillo and lived each day counting on Christ as her role model. She lived the Cursillo philosophy of making a friend, being a friend and bringing that friend to Christ. Family will receive visitors at Morris Funeral Home, 304 Merrimon Avenue, Thursday, October, 2, 2014 7:00-8:30 PM. The Rite of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. Ed Sheridan and Deacon Mike Zboyovski at 2:30 PM, Friday, October 3, at the Parish of Saint Eugene Church, 72 Culvern Street. Memorial donations may be made to the Daniel Boone Council BSA, 333 Haywood Road, Asheville, NC 28803 in memory of Patricia Hagarty for camp scholarships.
