Mr. Peter Martin

Asheville ~ Peter Martin, who died on May 7, 2011 was born in Brasilia, Brazil on September 19, l965, to the late Rev. John Robert Martin and mother, Patricia Loraine Martin, who were serving as missionaries of the Methodist Church in Brasilia, Brazil. Peter is survived by his mother, Patricia, of Lake Junaluska, North Carolina; older brother, Paul Martin and wife Marilyn, of Wyckoff, New Jersey and their children Mathew, Kimberly, and Jeremy Martin; sister, Sharon Nicholls and husband, Bruce, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and their children Julia, and Elise Nicholls; sister, Carol Tyndall and her husband, Kirby, of Biltmore Lake, North Carolina and their daughters, Ashley Griffin and husband, Robert, and Kathryn (Katie) Tyndall, and numerous cousins, uncles and aunts. Peter’s primary education began in Caldwell, New Jersey, then to Waynesville, North Carolina where he completed 3 years of secondary education at Tuscola High School, graduating from Jenks Oklahoma High School , two years of college at ORU, Tulsa, Oklahoma, where his father was a chaplain in the City of Faith, completing his college degree at Mars Hill College, North Carolina. Peter worked in training at Belk’s, management and marketing at Roses and Heilig-Myers, and as a Branch Bank Manager for Bank of America in Candler, North Carolina. Peter was a man of God and follower of Jesus Christ. His life revolved around his church, Central United Methodist in Asheville. He loved his Lord, his family, and his community of friends, neighbors, and work colleagues. He followed Christ’s great commandment “Thou shalt love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind and with all your strength. The second is this “Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no commandment greater than these.” At Asheville Central United Methodist Church he was a member of the Men’s Bible Class, served in many capacities in the church with a special interest in missions and ministries to the homeless. A quiet man, with a gentle loving spirit, he tried to follow his Lord in deed, love, and service. His mission giving was to Kory Wawanka Children’s Home in Tacachia, Bolivia and to the Mission to the homeless in Asheville. Honorary gifts may be made through Central United Methodist Church, 27 Church Street, Asheville, NC 28801, or to any charity of your choice. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at Central United Methodist Church with Dr. Robert Blackburn, Jr. officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be: Bill Van Cleve, David Bourne, John Bonham, Ben Floyd, David Lee and Joe Scott. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church.
