Gordon Lendon Jones Jr.

Gordon Lendon Jones, Jr., of Asheville, died at the age of 86 at CarePartners Hospice Solace Center on Saturday, April 22, 2023. Born in Asheville on October 18, 1936, Gordon was an active part of his community and church and was loved by many. He was the son of the late Gordon Lendon Jones, Sr. and Evelyn Gaylean and husband to Joan Lloyd Jones, his beloved wife of 65 years. There is no way to write about Gordon without starting with the epic love story of Joan and him. Gordon moved to Mayview Road in Raleigh right next door to Joan in 1950. Five years later, he proposed, and they were married on January 11, 1958, where they began their family on Crabapple Lane and built friendships that would hold steadfast for years to come. During their 65 years of marriage, they traveled the world visiting approximately 6 continents, 44 countries, and 48 states. They welcomed numerous grandchildren into their arms and cherished each one. His life was filled with adventure, faith, and love. Gordon loved God and he began attending Asbury United Methodist Church in 1960. As a dedicated choir member, who sang his heart out, Gordon served on many committees, volunteered extensively, and always served others. His commitment to the Blue Ridge Emmaus community was one of his greatest joys. He made you smile and kept you on your toes. Love was the first thing that came to mind when thinking of Gordon. He lived to love others. After attending the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Gordon’s work was dedicated to the florist business and the John Henry Company. His gift of connecting with people allowed him over 40 successful years of a career. He is survived by four children: Robin Butler, the late Lendon Jones (Amanda), Lloyd Jones (Laura), and Kara Jones; a bushel of grandchildren; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews. His dedication to his family goes beyond words. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, April 29th at 2:00 p.m. at Asbury United Methodist Church in Asheville, NC.
