Mrs. Lisa Lynn Masters Brooks

Lisa Lynn Masters Brooks (b. 3-20-1964 d. 11-15-2016) of New York City died in Lima, Peru. She was the beloved wife of William Ben Brooks of Oklahoma and NYC, the daughter of Stanley Allen Masters II and the late Patricia Lynn Alexander Masters, sister of Stephen Allen Masters and Mark Alexander Masters and his wife, Sherry Ball Masters, the aunt of Ian Alexander Masters and Eli David Masters; with Aunts Betty Nelon Gaddy and Margaret Alexander Bell. Her death is mourned by two sister-in-laws and their husbands, Claudia and Stan Kittrell, and Rebecca and Wade Brawley; and nieces and nephews Christopher, Phares, Heidi and Rosie June Chappell, Emily Kittrell, Parker Brawley and Rachel Brawley. She was born in Omaha, Nebraska, grew up in Asheville and spent most of her adult life in NYC. She attended Asheville City Schools and Appalachian State University graduating with a degree in Journalism with minors in both Broadcasting and Modern Dance. In 1983 she was awarded the Miss Asheville title. She started her career in broadcasting in Asheville with local radio before moving to NYC to begin her modeling career. The family seized every opportunity to give support, cheering her on with every runway assignment, print advertisement, movie, television show, commercial and magazine feature. Lisa was a colleague, employee,instructor, coach and friend to many. Known as a talented and beautiful model, she worked all over the world while still sharing her experience with others through her numerous workshops and her inspirational/instructional book “How To Make Money Modeling: at any age, height, or size”. Masters was employed by Gotham Talent Agency, and Prestige Management Group in NYC. Her multiple acting credits include major motion pictures; The Stepford Wives, It’s Complicated and The Clique. Her major television credits included Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and Criminal Intent, Ugly Betty, Royal Pains, Hope and Faith, Gossip Girl, Nashville to name a few, and the NY indie films Blumenthal, The Girl in The Book and The Fish Bowl. The family is grateful for the many expressions of loving concern from friends, neighbors, classmates and Lisa’s work industry. Christopher Silveri, her agent, said: “As to her husband and family’s wishes, we hope that the industry can mourn her death without details,” Masters’ manager said in a statement to ET on Friday. “In these darkening days, we hope those who have had the pleasure of knowing her will see how brightly she shined and will find that light within themselves and continue to share it with others -- just as she would have.” She was graced with outward beauty and the family is comforted by the many expressions from individuals that shared how she graced life with the sensitivity of caring for those who felt marginalized. Lisa was an advocate for AA, giving encouragement to others along the way, having faced an addiction. She suffered from depression, and for years bravely placed one foot in front of the other, leaning into the responsibilities of her days, doing the next thing, until life became too heavy. The family takes comfort embracing the God who created all things and all people, Who understands hearts and is not limited today in giving comfort and guidance. A memorial service of Christian faith will be held in the Chapel of the First Baptist Church, 5 Oak Street, Asheville, North Carolina on Thursday, December 1, 2016 at 11:00 AM.
