Betty Ann Wortham Ennett passed away on February 2, 2021, at the Deerfield Episcopal Retirement Community in Asheville. She was 93 years old, born on July 20, 1927, in Montreux, Switzerland. She was predeceased in 2008 by her husband of 57 years, George Noble Ennett; her parents, Naomi and Richard Jordan Wortham; her brother, Richard Fielding Lewis Wortham; and her faithful friend, Julia Kragh. She is survived by her three children, Virginia Ennett (Ginny) Graybiel and her partner, James Daniel Hayward, of Pensacola, Fla.; Susan Tompkins Ennett and her husband, Wayne Pein, of Chapel Hill, N.C.; and her son, George Noble (Skip) Ennett and his partner, Teri Talbot, of Asheville. Betty Ann and George resided in Charlotte for more than 40 years before retiring in 1990 to their beloved mountains where both had grown up. She was a graduate of St. Genevieve-of-the-Pines in Asheville and Bryn Mawr College in Philadelphia. In addition to numerous volunteer endeavors, she was an enthusiastic tennis player for many years. She was an avid reader and member of several book clubs, including the McGuffey Readers, which she founded in Asheville. She was a member of the Good Time Girls, which celebrated the close-knit friends' birthdays. She was a longtime member of the Biltmore Forest County Club and a member of the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America. She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church. For the last ten years, she worshipped at the St. Giles Health Care Chapel at Deerfield. A graveside service for the family will be conducted by the Rev. Scott White, rector of Trinity Church. The family is grateful to the Simonds Health Care Center at Deerfield, whose staff members provided Betty with excellent and compassionate care for the past ten years, as well as to the devoted staff of CarePartners Hospice.
