Betty Sue Hipps Hensley

December 5, 1927 - March 25, 2021

Mrs. Betty Sue Hipps Hensley passed away peacefully at the age of 93 on March 25, 2021, with her family by her side. She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was the daughter of Ada and Walter Hipps and was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters. She is survived by one sister, Nancy Creasman (Don Creasman), daughter, Patricia Sue Hensley-Ebert, two grandchildren, Jennifer Lorraine Ebert (Nick Helton) and Daniel Martin Ebert, and one great-grandson, Lucas Ebert Helton. She was adored by all. She was truly a saint; very loving, kind and compassionate. She was a devout Christian member of Foster Seventh Day Adventist Church and read her bible and prayed every day. For 40 years Betty Sue worked at the WNC Farmers Market where she helped her husband L J Martin Hensley run their two stalls packed with fruits, vegetables, honey, jellies, jams, wreaths and rocking chairs. She was well-known in Asheville and welcomed customers from across the country who stopped by every year to buy their produce. Betty Sue once sold honey to President George H. W. Bush and had a frequent customer, actor Andie McDowell, a former resident of Asheville. She will be greatly missed by her family and anyone who knew her. She is with the Lord now! For his final seven years Betty Sue took care of her husband L J with great love and care until he passed on October 21, 2019 at the age of 92. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the family will be holding a private visitation and service at Morris Funeral & Cremation Care. The service will be webcast live Monday, March 29th at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be at Forest Memorial Park located at 1498 Sand Hill Road, Candler, NC 28715, immediately after the services, where all are welcome to attend. The family anticipates arriving at Forest Memorial Park at approximately 3:45 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Betty Sue Hensley’s name to The Salvation Army of the Carolinas.
