She had a trying time in Russia, battling poor living conditions, lack of nutrition and illness. She grew up quickly. Upon Germany declaring war on Russia, she began her journey to freedom. In 1942 the Indian Government offered to take in 10,000 Poles. The Polish Government made every effort to get as many children out as possible, Mary was one of those children. In her time there she was able to go to school, learn English, how to sew and cook. One of her assignments was to write a letter to a Polish soldier fighting in Italy. Her beloved Waclaw "Bill" got hers. They wrote for the remainder of the war and met in England in 1948, they were married that October. In 1951, Bill and Mary settled in Tasmania, Australia. In 1958, with two children and one on the way, they moved their small family to Long Island, NY. Mary moved to Asheville in 1988 where she was a member of St. Eugene Catholic Church. She was incredibly active in the Women’s Guild and she enjoyed crocheting blankets for Project Linus, a non-profit organization that provides blankets to children in need. She is survived by her three children, Ursula Adler and her husband, Richard, of Cary, Mark Mukosiej and his wife, Bobbi, of Flat Rock, Alicia Madigan of Cary; her six grandchildren, Daniel DiLeo (Julia), Tara Woll (Dennis), Victoria Adkison (Ryan), Christine Mukosiej; Christina Johnson (Christopher), Kevin Mukosiej; 5 great-grandchildren, Dominic Adkison, Charlotte Johnson, Stella Adkison, Penelope Johnson and Emmie Woll; her sister, Wanda Wojewodka Dunn of England and her two brothers, Tadeusz Wojewodka and Zbigniew Wojewodka both of England. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00am on Thursday, February 6, 2020 at St. Eugene Roman Catholic Church, 72, Culvern Street, with Fr. Patrick Cahill celebrating. The family will receive friends following Mass in the fellowship hall. Burial will take place at a later date at Our Lady of Czestochowa Cemetery in Doylestown, PA.
