Evelyn Siatis

July 2, 1931 - December 28, 2021

Evelyn Siatis passed away at the Laurels of Summit Ridge on Tuesday, December 28, 2021 at 90 years old. She is preceded in death by her husband Gus. She was born in Toledo, Ohio on July 2, 1931 to James and Arestea Demos. Her dream of becoming a fashion designer never happened due to the death of her father prior to graduating high school. She went on to work at Lasalle’s department store as a comptroller. In 1954 she married the love of her life, Gus Siatis, and moved to Miami Beach, FL where her husband went into partnership with his brother-in-law co-owning and operating Athens Tropical Fruits and Novelties. Throughout Evelyn’s life she served in the Greek Orthodox parish communities where she lived as President of Ladies Philoptochos Society, Daughters of Penelope, and Sunday School Teacher. In 1965 along with many other wives, she supported her husband as one of the founding members of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church of North Miami, FL. She was a member of the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Ft. Pierce, FL from 1990 until 2005 when she and Gus moved to Asheville, NC. Even though she was born in Ohio she loved Asheville. She was captivated by the beauty of the Blue Ridge mountains. Her greatest loves however, were her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved to cook and loved sharing and teaching her granddaughters how to prepare Greek dishes and pastries handed down from her mother. She is survived by her daughter Bessie Siatis Moody, son-in-law Michael Moody, son Chris Siatis, and two grandchildren, Sarah Rogers and Kathleen Rogers, along with many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM on Tuesday, January 4, 2022, at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 227 Cumberland Avenue in Asheville. Trisagion Service beginning at 10:45 AM. Funeral service to follow. Father Michael Diavatis is officiating. Interment will be at Green Hills Cemetery, 25 New Leicester Highway, Asheville, NC. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations be made to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 227 Cumberland Avenue, Asheville, NC 28801.
