Mr. George Conrad Wiener

George Conrad Wiener, age 88, died on March 27, 2013. A native of Richmond Hill, NY. George was preceded in death by his parents, George and Katherin Gucker Wiener, brothers, Robert and Richard Wiener. George was a highly skilled machinst-tool maker most of his adult life. Two jobs in retirement gave him the greatest pleasure. He was a school bus driver and teacher's aide at the Ira B. Jones school, helping particularly two MS students. The children called him Mr. George. After that he operated the elevator built into the rock wall of the fireplace at the Grove Park Inn. He fully enjoyed greeting guest, answering questions and running that old elevator. George was a talented actor who played many roles in the community theatre for thirty plus years. During his time here in Asheville, beginning in 1986, he was involved with the Asheville Community Theatre and appeared in a number of plays. He was a long time volunteer at the Crisis Center of ABCCM and a many year participant in the Osher College for Seniors at UNCA Asheville. George is survived by his dear wife, Edythe, stepdaughters, Laura Marks and husband Emerson and Amy Ullrich McCranels and husband, Steve. Five Grandchildren, Robert and Maria Marks and Joseph, Erin and Matthew Marano. Nephews, Robert Wiener and wife, Jeanann, Richard Wiener and wife, Michele, Niece, Tracy Curtin and husband Timothy. Five Great Nieces and Nephews. Cousins, Brian Timmins and wife, Elaine and George Gucker and wife Joan. Sisters-in-law, Barbara Wiener and Ruth Anderson. Many old friends and new. The family will receive friends at Morris Funeral Home, 304 Merrimon Avenue on Monday, April 1 from 2:00 4:30 PM. A Celebration of Life Service 2:00 PM on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 will be held at Warren Wilson Presbyterian Church where George was a member. Officiating will be the Rev. Steve Runholt and the Rev. Beth Newman. Burial will be in Linden Hill United Methodist Cemetery in Ridgewood, NY. Flowers are acceptable and appreciated.
