Mrs. Irene Ioakim Gailey Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Irene Ioakim Gailey, 93, of Asheville died peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, January 1, 2017 at Stonecreek Health and Rehabilitation. She is predeceased by her beloved husband of 60 years, Demosthenes and by her grandson, William. She is survived by her children, George and his wife, Maggie, Paul and his wife, Paola and Elenie and her husband, Dennis; her grandchildren, Eirene and her husband, Travis, Shirley and her husband, Mike, Jennifer and her husband, Mannie and Glen and his wife, Jennifer and by her great grandchildren Sebastian and Ava. Born in New York City and raised in New Haven, Conn, she attended Larson College and went on to work as a medical technologist. A long-time resident of Asheville, she was a member of the Asheville Garden Club and Second Tuesday Investment Club. She was known for her culinary skills and for her friendliness and caring nature towards other people. She was a member of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church and participated in the Philoptochos Society, a charitable and philanthropic outreach of the church. A Trisagion service will be held at 7:00 PM, Friday, January 6, 2017 at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 227 Cumberland Avenue, Asheville, NC 28801. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the Trisagion. Funeral services will be held at noon on Saturday, January 7, 2017 also at the church. Interment will follow at Lewis Memorial Park. Memorials may be made either in the form of flowers delivered to the funeral home or donations to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church.
