Langdon Marcus Ammen II died on September 16, 2018, at Givens Estates in Asheville, NC, from complications of Parkinson's disease. It would have been his 58th wedding anniversary with his beautiful wife, Jean. He was 78 years old. He was born in Greensboro NC on September 18, 1939 to the late Russell Marcus Ammen and Clara Katherine Kessler Ammen. Langdon attended Trevecca College in Nashville, TN, where he met his wife, Jean Partin Ammen, who preceded him in death in 2007. At the time of his death, he was president of Roundtable Enterprises Inc., a mortgage investment company. Prior to that, he founded and taught at the Carolina Institute of Real Estate Studies. Mr. Ammen held personnel management positions with Burlington Industries, Avondale Mills, and was an independent human resources consultant for a number of years. He worked many years as a journalist beginning with his own newspaper, the Stokesdale Star when just a high school student, then with Thomasville Times-Enterprise, Daily Highpoint Enterprise, Weekly Kernersville News, Atlanta GA Department of Public Safety, Nashville Tennessean, and the Greensboro News and Record. Langdon was a former member of the North Carolina, Tennessee and Georgia National Guards. He gave freely of time and held many leadership positions in various organizations including American Red Cross, Boy Scouts of America, Buncombe County, Carolina Real Estate Investors Association, City of Asheville, Rotary Club of Asheville and United Way of Asheville and Buncombe County. Langdon was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Asheville where he served in several positions during his 46 years of membership. Survivors include daughter Jean Marie (Jeanne) Ammen Lytle of Brevard; daughter Mary Catherine (Katie) Ammen King (fiancé Scott Harris) of Asheville; grandchildren: Dylon Marcus King of Tucson, AZ, Emily Jasmine King of Asheville, Naomi Ellyse Lytle of Boone (Appalachian State University), Olivia Baird Lytle of Winston-Salem (U.N.C. School of the Arts), Ava Marielle of Brevard.; brother Russell Ammen and family of Inman, SC, sister Helen Ammen of King NC; special family members by marriage: Doc and Marie Livingston and family of Dewey OK, Gene Price and family of Thomasville GA. The Family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Four Seasons Hospice and Givens Estates for their compassionate care and abundant kindness they showed to Langdon and his family. A memorial service will be held Saturday September 22nd, 2018 at 1:00pm at First Baptist Church of Asheville. Informal visitation with the family will follow.
