She was a Hospice volunteer and a devout, lifelong member of Asbury Memorial United Methodist Church. She will be sorely missed by all whose life she touched. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmore “Bo” Carter; sisters, Peggy Tanner and Dorothy Henderson; brothers; Bob Sorrells, Bill Sorrells, and John “Mac” Sorrells. Nancy is survived by her sister, June Cleaton (Bill) of Charlotte NC, four sons, Wayne Carter, of Asheville, Dale Carter of Greenville, SC, Dennis Carter (Sue) of Atlanta, GA, and Alan Carter (Kama) of Dallas, TX; seven grandchildren, Emily Kennedy (Chris), Emerson Carter, Juliet Carter, Haley McDowell (Jason), Megan Morton, Katie Johnston (Matt) and Nick Poteat; and eight great grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Friday, January 7, from 4:00pm until 6:00pm at Morris Funeral & Cremation Care, 304 Merrimon Avenue, Asheville, NC 28801. Her Graveside Service will be held at 1:00pm, Saturday, January 8 at Lewis Memorial Park with Rev. Jeff McCumber officiating. Masks are optional at both events per family requests.
