Sarah Jaudon McMahan

Sarah Jaudon McMahan, 84, passed away on Monday, June 15, 2015 at Mission Hospital, in Asheville, NC. She was born in Buncombe county in 1930 but spent much of her early life in Brevard, NC, where her father operated his law practice. She graduated from Brevard High School in 1948, and received her degree from Queens College (University) in Charlotte, NC. She continued her association with Queens as an active supporter of the Queens University scholarship and other alumni programs. She had been a resident of Givens Estates for the past seven years. Sarah was preceded in death by her parents Edward H. McMahan and Kathleen Jenkins McMahan, and one brother Edward H. McMahan, Jr. She is survived by many devoted cousins and close friends. She retired from The National Climatic Data Center (NOAA), after serving twenty-five years as a systems analyst. She began her career in the Asheville office, but transferred to Washington DC where she remained until her retirement. She was a high school mathematics teacher for several years following her graduation from college. Sarah was an avid golfer in her earlier years, and received special recognition for her hole in one at the Beaver Lake Country Club. She was a lifelong sports fan, and was particularly passionate about football and golf. However, she never quite forgave baseball for striking during a world series. She was a generous supporter of many charities, especially wildlife and animal rescue organizations. Sarah will probably be best remembered for her wonderful fun sense of humor and laughter. A memorial service will be held 2:00 PM, Saturday, June 27, 2015 in the Chapel of Central United Methodist church in Asheville, where she was a member. The Rev. Rob Blackburn will officiate. Private graveside services will be held at Lewis Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Central United Methodist Church, 27 Church Street, Asheville, NC 28801; The Salvation Army, 204 Haywood Street, Asheville, NC 28801; or, The Asheville Humane Society, 14 Forever Friends Lane, Asheville, NC 28806.
