Barbara Ann (Blick) Lewin

Barbara Ann (Blick) Lewin,74, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on November 21, 2025, at Mission Hospital in Asheville, NC. Born January 12, 1951, in Newark, NJ, Barbara moved to Raleigh, NC, with her family at the age of 6. A stellar student, she attended and graduated from Broughton High School in Raleigh in 1969, where she was involved in numerous student organizations and represented Wake County at Girls State. Barbara was also involved in several Jewish youth groups. Barbara first attended college at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. After marriage, she graduated in 1975 from The University of North Carolina at Greensboro with a degree in Early Childhood Education. After moving to Asheville in 1975, Barbara became involved as a volunteer and Board Member of numerous civic organizations. They included Pack Place, Children’s Welfare League (Children’s Well-Being League), Pack Place, Junior League of Asheville, Mineral Museum (Asheville Museum of Science), Friends of the Earth Garden Club, Western North Carolina Nature Center, and Western North Carolina Child Abuse Center. She also served as a guide at Biltmore Estate and as a teacher and Principal of Sunday School at Congregation Beth Israel. Barbara was also known for her creativity and passion as an artist. Her talent in drawing, painting, and crafts is present in numerous works featured in the homes of her family and friends. Barbara also enjoyed writing and was an avid reader and fan of theatre. Barbara’s energetic spirit, reputation for detail, and sincere warmth made her a lifelong friend for many in Asheville and elsewhere. Her embracing personality, natural concern for others, and insightful intellect led her to be constantly sought after for advice and counsel. Most importantly, Barbara was a devoted and loving wife of 54 years to William, mother to daughters Amanda (Kenneth) of Rocky Mount, NC, and Rachel (Tony) of Mount Pleasant, SC, grandmother to Rebekah and Matthew, sister to Barry Blick (Scottie) of Hickory, NC, and Marilyn Gross (Irv) of South Glastonbury, CT, and sister-in-law to Myrna Orphan (Nick) of Atlanta, GA. She took immense care of her late parents, Milton and Ruth Blick of Raleigh, NC, and was loved greatly by her nephews, nieces, and countless cousins. Funeral services will be held Sunday, November 23rd, at 2 p.m. at Congregation Beth Israel, 229 Murdock Ave., Asheville, NC. Burial will follow at Lou Pollack Cemetery in Asheville.
