Patricia Swogger Jennings

Patricia Swogger Jennings, 87, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 13, 2022, at the Solace Center. A native of Lansing Michigan, she was the daughter of the late Reverend Richard Childs Swogger and late Helen Lott Swogger. She attended MacMurray College and graduated from Michigan State University. She also graduated from Duke University (where she met her future husband) with an advanced degree in Nutrition & Dietetics. Although trained as a dietitian, she spent the majority of her adult life as a mom. In retirement, she worked part-time as a hostess at Deerpark Restaurant on the Biltmore Estate. Pat was an inspiration to all who knew her and well-loved by all. She was a member of the Country Club of Asheville and was an avid golfer, member and past Treasurer of PEO Chapter AD, and head of the bereavement committee at Central United Methodist Church for many years. She also was an avid bridge player (making numerous lifelong friends over the years), a member of the ‘Gardeniers’ Garden Club, and Ruth Circle at church. Besides her family, she had three true loves – Duke men’s basketball, Topsail Beach, and cooking/baking. She was predeceased by her husband, Ralph Edmond Jennings, a son, Mark Edmond Jennings, and her brother, Charles Richard Swogger. She is survived by son, Steven Jennings (Jackie), daughter, Lisanne Masterson (Norman), and son, Jeffrey Jennings; four granddaughters, Bethany Jennings, Becky Conneen (Sean), Jordan Masterson, and Brittany Wilson (Jerry), and seven great-grandchildren, Brooke Conneen, Jack Conneen, Cohen Wilson, Samantha Conneen, Myles Wilson, Brock Conneen and Blakelyn Wilson. The family also wishes to recognize longtime friends, Thelma Hornaday (and family), Elaine Parker, and her caregiver, Peyton Voigt, as well as her numerous close friends from her many activities. Morris Funeral & Cremation Care, 304 Merrimon Avenue, Asheville, is coordinating funeral arrangements. A memorial service will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday, July 26th, at Central United Methodist Church in Asheville NC with Rev. Rob Blackburn officiating. The family will receive friends during a reception following the service. Private family burial at Oak Hill Cemetery in Kingsport TN will be held at a later date.
