Sally Hale Riddle

Sally Hale Riddle was born April 10, 1951, in Fletcher, North Carolina, and died peacefully on September 10, 2021, in the comfort of her Asheville home surrounded by family and loved ones. Sally was a Certified Registered Nurse, obtaining her degree from Georgia State University. She worked at hospitals in Atlanta and Denver and then at the VA Hospital, St. Joseph's, and lastly Mission Hospital in Asheville. She thoroughly enjoyed her long nursing career until she was forced to retire because of her illness. Sally fought a long 12 year battle with metastatic breast cancer. She fought hard and was extremely courageous until the very end. Sally leaves behind her husband David K. Riddle of Asheville, NC; their daughter Sarah Riddle Harvey and husband Dane, her grandson Declan, and also a grandson on the way, all of Youngsville, NC. Sally has three beloved brothers: Grafton W. Hale and wife Donna, Griffin R. Hale and wife Lisa, and John "Mac" Hale and wife Marcie. Step-sister and step-brothers: Sara, Stephen, and Roy Crystal. Aunt Nancy Hill, Cousins: David Hill and wife Dianne, and Doug Hill and wife Kathy. Nieces and nephew Michael, Shannon, Trisha, Rachel, Beka, Chelsea, and Cassie, among many other extended family members. Sally was preceded in death by her parents, Hal MacFarland Hale and Geneva Griffin Hale; Step-mother, Frances Crystal Hale; her beloved son, David Nelson Hall; Nephew, Curtis Teague Hale; Aunt, Marion Florence Hale, and many other Aunts, Uncles, and other family members. A memorial service will be held at St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Asheville on Saturday, September 25th, at 2:00 PM, with the imposition of ashes in the churchyard, and then visitation with the family in the church hall immediately following. All are welcome, but please wear a mask as required by the church. The family would like to thank the many people who helped care for Sally, especially Dr. Nathan Williams and the amazing team at New Horizons Women’s Cancer Care. They have been there for her every step of the way. Heartfelt gratitude goes out to Heidi Bohon, a beloved and wonderful family friend who flew in from California to help care for Sally during her last days. A special thanks also goes out to everyone at Four Seasons Hospice, especially her nurse Sonia. Additionally, the family would like to thank the professional people at Morris Funeral Home who have been so compassionate and understanding during this difficult time.
