Mr. William A. (Bill) Biggs

William A. (Bill) Biggs, 85, of 181 Jenkins Valley Road, Alexander, NC went home to his Lord on September 14, 2015 after a long illness. He was the son of James Dewey Biggs and Eliza Hyder Biggs, both of whom predeceased him. Also predeceasing him were two brothers, James Dewey Biggs, Jr. and Charles Edward Biggs. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Sandra Kuykendall-Biggs; three sons, James William Biggs (Mary) of Lytle Creek, CA, George William Harmen of Monroe, MI, and Robert Leo Biggs of the home; two grandsons, Robert Taylor Biggs of Newport News, VA, presently serving in the U.S. Navy and William Dakota Biggs of Richmond, VA; a brother, Carroll Biggs of Weaverville, NC; a niece, several nephews, great nephews and nieces and one great great nephew. Bill retired in 1971 from the United States Marine Corps. He was one of the “Chosin” few (Chosin Reservoir, Korea). During his career in the Marines he earned numerous medals and citations, some of which are the Presidential Unit Citation (Korea), Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal with a Silver Star and Battle Star, United Nations Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with Silver Star and Battle Star, Vietnam Campaign Medal with 1960 device and another Silver Star. After retiring from the Marine Corps he went to work with the Buncombe County Sheriffs Department from which he retired in 1986. Thereafter, he retired from John M. Young Construction and Exterminating Company, Inc. and his last employment was with Mountain Mobility. With the exception of his 23 and a half years in the Marine Corps and a year and a half in Dallas, TX, he was born and lived in Buncombe County, NC. Bill had numerous friends and will be missed by all. And missed mostly by his family who loved him very much. The family will receive friends from 7:00 - 9:00 pm on Sunday, September 20, 2015 at Morris Funeral Home, 304 Merrimon Avenue. A funeral service will be held at 12:00 pm on Monday, September 21, 2015 in the chapel of the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, Black Mountain, NC with Rev. Earl Jones officiating. Serving as pall bearers will be B. Todd Lentz, Robert D. Teague, Michael G. Thompson, Allen Watts, John Michael Young, and Robert Taylor Biggs. DeVere C.
