Betty Jo Darr passed peacefully into The Church Triumphant on Wednesday, June 28, 2017. Betty was born to Paul Overton Darr and Georgia Culbertson Darr Ramsey on August 5, 1926, in Biltmore. Most of her growing up years were spent in Madison County, on Spring Creek and Sandy Mush. Betty graduated from Lee Edwards High School in Asheville in the Class of 1943, and continued her education at Western Carolina Teachers College. Betty began her working career with Gerber Baby Foods as a lab employee, and retired as Head of the lab in 1987. Betty's big smile, boundless optimism, and great enthusiasm for life were an inspiration to her family throughout her long life. She was a proud member of Alcoholics Anonymous, and would have received her 59th chip this year. She was honored to serve an appointment to the Governor's Alcohol Board, and to be involved with the Flynn Home in Asheville. Betty was an active and dedicated member of The Cathedral of All Souls, The Friendship Force, Civitan, and The Daughters of the American Revolution. The family would like to express their utmost gratitude and appreciation for the loving care shown to Betty by the staffs of Mountain Home Care, Clare Bridge of Asheville, and Four Seasons Hospice. A special thank you is extended to Connie Bishop of Mountain Home Care, a special companion and true friend, who has devotedly cared for and loved our Aunt Betty for years. Betty was predeceased by her parents, a sister, Anne Culbertson Ramsey Echols, and a nephew, Smith Echols. Her survivors include a niece and nephew, Anne Elizabeth Keoleian and Daniel David Echols, along with their four children. A funeral service will be held 2:00, Sunday, July 9, 2017 in the chapel of Morris Funeral Home, 304 Merrimon Avenue with Rev. David Warren officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home beginning at 1 PM. Interment will follow at Snow Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery 84 Snow Hill Church Rd, Candler. Memorials to honor Miss Darr may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Pl, Memphis, TN 38105.
