James Stuart Burns
January 8, 1950 - May 15, 2021
James (Jimmy) Stuart Burns age 71 died May 15, 2021 peacefully at home in Asheville, NC. Born January 8, 1950 in Asheville to the late Dr. Jerome V. and Edna Underwood Burns, he is survived by sons, Ryan Stuart Burns, James Tyler Burns and Joseph Espinosa-Burns; former spouses, Lynn Nesbitt Burns and Katherine Slagle Burns and sister, Layne Burns Taylor, all of Asheville; nephews, John, Jim, and Joe Zuber and special friend, Selene Thoms. Jim was a 1968 graduate of T.C Roberson High School and attended University of TN. As a young man he served in the US Navy. He was a founding member of the Asheville music scene in the late 1960’s and he never stopped performing. Jim sang in various bands in many locations with musicians who became lifelong friends and family. In an unusual career change, Jim worked in the film industry during the first half of the 1990’s. From WNC and coast to coast he met and befriended film stars, politicians, and musicians. His mention in the Texas Monthly magazine as an affable guy described him perfectly. He was comfortable in any social situation. Jim would sometimes reluctantly share his stories and always left his audience wanting more whether music related or other interesting life experiences. His family, friends, fans, and fellow musicians will miss him greatly. A celebration of life will be from 3:00 to 6:00 pm, Wednesday, May 19, 2021 at Rye Knot, 868 Merrimon Avenue, Asheville, NC 28804. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to www.https://mountainpetrescue.org/ Morris Funeral & Cremation Care is serving the family.
